While the remote kill switch won’t be present in non-EV vehicles until 2026 model year, all cars going back to at least 2015, and some as early as 2013, that are connected to the internet can be hacked (which is what happened to truth-telling journalist Michael Hastings). So best to drive a 2012 or older vehicle if possible, although most lower-end models from 2013 and 2014 were still not outfitted with internet access. This is my understanding but I’m no expert if anyone with auto/cyber-connection expertise would like to weigh in.

My uncle's been saying since the pandemic that these 'emergency' powers never actually get revoked, they just morph into something permanent. What's interesting is how the "impaired driver" framing could expand to include basically anything authorities decide counts as impairment.
